ANTIBULLYING AND BODY SHAMING
The principal of Gill Adarsh brought the concern to the knowledge of Dr. Malathi that the students in class IX and X std were facing difficulty in balancing the hormonal fluctuations which caused disturbance for majority of the students in the form of bullying and body shaming. Given the delicate nature of the subject and the majority of the student body being male, it was decided to have a male resource person speak to the students about it and help them become more self-aware of their needs. The chief counsellor identified her student, Mr. Mohammed Yaseen a Psychological graduate with a specialization in counselling, a life skill trainer as the right person to address the students. The facilitator guided the students to weave a safety net around them by being self-aware. The topics touched upon were Self-awareness, Self-esteem, Bullying, Body-shaming, good touch -Bad touch, Seeking help.
Through various life examples and personal life experiences, the facilitator moved around the topics that were interwoven beautifully for the students to relate to and understand the consequences of bullying and being victimized. The students’ sincere gratitude demonstrated their readiness for change and their determination to respect themselves and others. This transformation would increase their confidence by boosting up their self-esteem.
VALUES THROUGH KUTTY STORIES
An unconventional program, Kutty Story was held for students from Class 6, 7, and 8. Through the art of narration and storytelling, students learnt life skills in a funny yet meaningful manner. This batch of students was yet to attend offline classes and hence it was imperative to impart skills like resilience that would help them handle this current persistent situation of online classes. With the quote ‘What you give is what you take’, students were taught to give respect to others, regardless of this lockdown. Students were encouraged to start helping their parents by sharing chores with the quote ‘Kindness is the gift that you can give to others". Students were educated to develop a daily routine and be consistent with it. For older grades, the session focused belief systems and how it impacts one’s thoughts and actions. The students learnt that irrespective of the situation, how one tackles it, is what matters the most. With the teaching of ‘Gratitude is the best attitude’, the session came to an end
BECOMING A BETTER YOU - Motivation for students
The motivational program called 'Becoming a better you' conducted for the Class X, XI, XII of Gill Adarsh by Dr.K.Malathi and Junior counsellor. The program aimed at helping the students to become a better version of them, both academically and personally. From generations to generations, children were taught to love care and share their pencils, erasers, food, etc. as a gesture of kindness and respect to others. But in the current scenario, the students are asked to avoid sharing because they care extra not just for their friend's safety but also for their society.
"Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity; it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." —Melody Beattie.
Students were taught to practice gratitude, to appreciate every aspect of their life. This skill is important as it allows one to be content and happy with the present. The students were receptive and interactive throughout the session.

Language plays a very important role in the molding of an individual. Adolescent is an age group that tends to be very tender, vulnerable, can grasp everything just like a magnet and getting attracted to anything that crosses path in their life, not only the healthy ones but also the unhealthy behaviors. One such unhealthy behavior observed among students was the usage of foul language. To catch them young, this program was planned to curtail the use of foul language. The impact and reflection of foul language was explained through real life situations. A metaphor prompted the realization of the effects of foul language. The students were made to think is to why media tend to portray foul words as &#**# and BEEP sound when foul words are uttered. With a realization that foul words are nasty, a story of Buddha was narrated that helped them to handle angry words when thrown upon them. The swear jar method YOU SAY IT, YOU PAY IT, was suggested to kick OFF their swearing habit. The students understood that, when they have positively high thoughts, their language would also be high in values. All the students promised to turn their school into a NO BAD WORD ZONE.
BE SMART. DO NOT START (DRUG USAGE).
Adolescence a transition from childhood to adulthood is viewed as a period of storm and stress, where the students grasp everything around them just like a magnet, not only the healthy ones but also the unhealthy behaviors. The students of ninth std were targeted for the program “No Drug”. For the students to understand their vulnerability, a real-life scenario was narrated. A PPT presentation, sharply unveiled the ill effects of drugs. Awareness was created about men becoming impotent and women who use drugs during pregnancy give birth to babies with deformity. The discussion on the steps taken by the government and the school to stop drug dealing helped to find ways to say NO to drugs. Students came forward to make charts and spread the message to other students and their neighborhood friends.
